MARQelectronica

MARQelectronica is the genre-blurring solo project of singer-songwriter and producer Mark Dickinson, based between Newcastle upon Tyne and Middlesbrough. Originally formed during the Covid-19 lockdowns as a temporary creative outlet while his band was unable to perform, the project quickly evolved into something far more ambitious. Combining emotionally charged songwriting with high-energy electronic production, MARQelectronica has carved out a distinctive sound that stands apart within the North East music scene.
Drawing influence from the progressive house energy of CamelPhat and the disco-infused house stylings of Freemasons, MARQelectronica also incorporates elements of drill, grime, and trap. Deep basslines, intricate percussion, atmospheric samples, and driving rhythms sit at the heart of the music, with tracks rarely dropping below 125 BPM. While the production is designed to move crowds, the lyrics often explore serious and emotional themes, creating a balance between escapism and reflection.
Mark’s vocal versatility, ranging from rich baritone tones to soaring falsetto, adds another layer to the project’s individuality. Combined with polished live performances and a sound that refuses to be easily categorised, MARQelectronica has gained recognition from venues and reviewers as one of the few artists in the region producing this style of electronic music.
Recent highlights include working with Brit and Ivor Novello Award-winning producer Simon Ellis and delivering a standout performance at The Globe, where audiences enthusiastically joined in with the hooks and collaborations and headlining Raise Up Fest and Sunderalnd is Electric. He has performed at South Shields Mela and Heaton Park Festival and across many venues in northern England from the Lions Den in Manchester to The Globe and Little Buildings in Newcastle and NE Volume in Teesside.
