Fältsånger

Fältsånger’s music is discovered rather than composed.

Most of our recordings begin as uninterrupted collective improvisations. some are released almost exactly as they happened; others are revisited later, with moments emerging from longer performances to become more concise pieces. the composition lies not in writing individual parts, but in listening closely enough for a form to reveal itself.

To date, we’ve released three albums created entirely through improvisation, including an uninterrupted piece lasting almost eighty minutes. Live, we’ve taken the same approach even further, performing a continuous two-and-a-half-hour improvisation within a museum setting.

We don’t see improvisation as a display of virtuosity or spontaneity for its own sake. It’s simply the most honest way we’ve found of making this music. It asks us to pay close attention—to one another, to the room, to the audience and to the moment—and trusts that something worth keeping will emerge.
